Where the data comes from
Worldtally is a static site. The map and charts are drawn in your browser from the files below. Nothing about your map is sent to these providers.
Countries and places
- Country list and continents: United Nations member states plus the two observer states, grouped with the UN M49 geoscheme. The list itself is factual reference data.
- Cities: Natural Earth 1:10m Populated Places, plus a short hand-picked list of well-known travel cities and Nauru's Yaren. Natural Earth data is in the public domain; the hand-picked names and coordinates are facts. No attribution is required.
- World map shapes: Natural Earth, via the public-domain world-atlas dataset.
- US state boundaries: US Census Bureau, via the public-domain us-atlas dataset.
- UK county and area boundaries: Ordnance Survey Boundary-Line and the ONS Open Geography Portal, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2026. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Flags
- Country flags: public-domain images from Flagpedia.net (served as flagcdn.com), rendered to a sprite. No attribution is required; the provenance note is in flags-sprite.LICENSE.
- US state flags: public-domain images collected in nibsbin/us-state-flags-svg, rendered to a sprite. No attribution is required; the provenance note is in us-state-flags.LICENSE.
- UK county flags: public-domain or CC0 images from Wikimedia Commons, rendered to a sprite. The source file for each flag is listed in uk-county-flags.LICENSE. Where a current area has no public-domain/CC0 flag, the relevant nation flag from Flagpedia.net is used.
- Flags are shown for identification only. Worldtally is not affiliated with any flag registry, government or standards body.
