Privacy
Your map stays yours
Worldtally is a static travel tracker. There are no accounts, no advertising and no cross-site tracking. Your map is built in your browser. We use cookieless, aggregate Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how the site is used and how it performs.
Who is responsible
Worldtally is an independent project. For privacy questions or data-protection requests, email contact@worldtally.app. Please don't include sensitive personal data in the message.
What is stored, and where
- The link is the save file. Your countries, years, repeat trips, residence years and cities are encoded into the part of the URL after
#. Browsers do not send that fragment to the server. - Your browser remembers the last map. A copy is kept in
localStorageso opening the bare address restores it. The keys areworldtally.state,worldtally.usandworldtally.uk; view, title and distance-unit preferences useworldtally.view,worldtally.titleandworldtally.unit. This is functional storage, not tracking. You can clear it at any time with your browser's site-data controls or the Clear map button. - Sharing is public. If you copy or send a Worldtally link, anyone with that link can see the map it contains. Treat it like a public snapshot of your travel history. Your edits never change someone else's copy.
- Export and import are local file operations. Nothing is uploaded.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first analytics service. It is cookieless: it does not set or read cookies or localStorage, does not fingerprint visitors and does not track people across websites. It reports aggregate page views, referrers and performance information.
Cloudflare processes this data as our analytics provider under its privacy policy and data processing addendum, which covers transfers outside the UK/EEA. Cloudflare keeps unsampled beacon data for seven days, then aggregates it; the dashboard shows the previous six months. We use analytics on the basis of our legitimate interests in understanding and improving the site.
Hosting and security
Worldtally is served by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes standard request metadata, such as IP address, user agent, requested URL and time, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare may also set strictly necessary security cookies, such as __cf_bm, when its anti-abuse features are active. Those are governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy, and Cloudflare retains security/request logs according to its policy. Our referrer policy sends only the site origin to other sites.
What we do not do
- No account, email address or password is required.
- No map data is sent to a Worldtally server, because there is no application server or database.
- No personal data is sold, rented or shared for advertising.
- No advertising, social embeds, tracking pixels or cross-site trackers are loaded. The only third-party script is the Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon.
- No automated decision-making or profiling is used.
Cookies and consent
Worldtally does not set its own cookies and does not use analytics cookies. The map and preferences are stored locally in your browser because that is how the save feature works. Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless. Because there is no non-essential storage or cross-site tracking, we do not show a cookie banner. You can still block the analytics beacon with an ad blocker; the rest of the site will work normally.
Your rights and choices
You can clear the saved map in your browser, use a private window, or avoid sharing links that contain places you would rather keep private. Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Because the map is stored in your browser, you can exercise most of these directly by clearing site data. For hosting or analytics data held by Cloudflare, use the contact route above.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the supervisory authority in your country.
